Chupa is a fundraising strategist and trainer with 22 years’ experience in institutional fundraising in Africa, Europe and the US. Chupa has raised millions for a broad range of causes including international development, human rights, gender issues, global health, homelessness & housing, and education. Chupa is a seasoned grant maker with over seven years’ experience. Chupa has established a community foundation, rebranded and launched a national foundation, assessed grants, supported the establishment of a By and For Racial Justice Foundation and co-developed participatory fund designs, and is on the Board of a large UK Foundation.
Motivated by the Ubuntu philosophy Chupa is a strong advocate of decolonising aid and the #Shiftthepower movement, and is committed to the redistribution of power from donors to beneficiaries and charities to communities. Chupa promotes the emphasis on local resources and capabilities and is particularly keen to support community philanthropy and continues to be involved in tackling funding disparities, interrogating and intervening in the power dynamics of philanthropy.
